Sad but true: coffee stains, alcohol spills, and muddy footprints are all part of life. Of course, there are ways in which you can do your best to prevent this from happening. Ask guests to take off their shoes or buy a stain-resistant carpet, for example - but your best bet is to figure out how to get rid of them first.
Although vacuuming on a regular basis doesn't make your carpet look dirty and messy, hard stains are things that can't handle even the best vacuum. Whatever the problem, there is a specific solution or cleaning product to make your area look brand new (or less, clean) again. Here, Carpet Cleaning Keilor is director of the Good Housekeeping Institute Cleaning Lab, explains how to clean carpets from common stains, including red wine spills, cake-on-dirt, and pet messes.
Looking to take a more natural approach? Lightly sprinkle baking soda to refresh dirty carpets. After spraying it on the affected areas, work it into the pile with a soft brush and let it sit for 15-30 minutes before emptying. Start with a new vacuum bag or clean cup and filter to make sure your vacuum suction is best for taking fine powder off the carpet.
